Taking Care Of Hair Extensions On Holiday

It’s that time of the year again! Everyone’s favourite season, it’s Summer time! Whilst we’ve really been feeling the heat in the U.K. this year, we must admit nothing beats a good summer holiday abroad with amazing company and views.

With holidays fast approaching it’s important to understand how hair extensions, wigs and even natural hair can react to different weather conditions and environments. This will help you look on point for those holiday snaps and save your hair a whole lot of work once it’s time to pack those bags and return home. Our tips will leave your hair looking amazing before, during and after your holiday.

Tip 1 - Hair Oil

Hair oils should be an every day essential in everyone’s hair routine, but if you’re one to usually skip on this step make sure you don’t when it’s time for your holiday. The sun, sea and chlorine from swimming pools are known to strip hair of moisture leaving hair looking brittle and dry. To avoid a scarecrow type look on holiday and to restore moisture to the hair, use Keracare Essential Oils and apply to hair working it in from root to tip. Massage your scalp with some oil under your wig to stimulate hair growth.

Tip 2 - Shampoo & Condition

When preparing for your big trip, don’t forget your shampoo and conditioner. You’ll need to wash your hair thoroughly after exposing it to salt water and chlorine. Although shampoos and conditioners can be found anywhere, don’t risk trying new brands abroad that may not work for your hair texture. Pack your Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Shampoo and Conditioner to ensure your hair is clean, moisturised and smelling like a tropical dream on your vacation. Don’t go crazy and over wash your hair while you’re abroad. Mix an empty spray bottle with your Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Conditioner and water for a quick refresh on days where your hair doesn’t need a full wash.

Tip 3 - Avoid Sea Water & Chlorine

As tempting as swimming may be, be careful of swimming in salty sea water and pools with chlorine. Hair extensions can easily become, dry, discoloured and tangled after swimming. If you are planning on swimming wear a headscarf or swimming cap to protect your hair. If you still want to look cute while you’re in the pool, put your hair in a ponytail, plait or simple hairstyle so your hair does not get tangled up.

Tip 4 - Don’t Sleep With Wet Hair Extensions

You should never sleep with wet hair extensions, abroad or at home. After swimming, make sure wet hair is thoroughly detangled with a Tangle Teezer or wide tooth comb to eliminate knots. Make sure to detangle while hair is still wet. Also, ensure that your hair is bone dry before sleeping. This will stop the hair extensions from getting matted. If you’re rocking a wig, make sure you do not wear it to sleep. Dry the hair with a blow dryer if time is not on your side.

Tip 5 - Protect Your Hair From The Sun

Like your skin, hair can get sun damage too especially dyed hair. If you’re planning on sunbathing or know that you’ll be in the sun for prolonged periods of time wear a cute hat to protect your hair. This will shield your hair extensions from the sun’s UV rays.

Tip 6 - Seek Professional help

Don’t feel shy about going to a professional stylist to have a look at your hair extensions or wig. After your holiday, book yourself an appointment with a salon and get your hair treated, washed and dried by a qualified stylist. They may even recommend trimming the ends for a more voluminous look.
