Get your Edges Back

Don't accept losing your edges - discover how you can get your them back with MS Hair - a company focused on helping you alleviate the key frustration of hair loss and thinning edges for Kinky, Coily and Curly hair.

How and why did you start Ms Hair? We started Ms Hair after noticing an increase in hair loss and traction alopecia amongst our family and friends. After many years of excessive hair styling and poor hair maintenance, many of our loved ones were suffering from hair loss, thinning hairlines, and poor hair growth. We couldn’t find any good solutions that addressed this problem for women of colour on the highstreet. So as a family, we decided to take matters into our own hands by creating our own products.

Why is it called Ms Hair? It’s called Ms Hair because wanted our brand to represent a title of respect and independence, which would empower women to identify with the beauty and power of their natural hair.

How can you use The Hair Foundation Kit - What are your Ms Hair tips? Our Hair Foundation Fibres are so versatile, they can be used on various hairstyles to help disguise centre partings, cover up grey hairs and conceal thinning areas. They look amazing on natural hairstyles, up-do’s, braids, locs and wigs. The Hair Foundation Kit is so easy to use, it can be applied in seconds:

Step 1: Place the Applicator Pump onto the Hair Foundation Fibre bottle. From 3-5 inches above the target area lightly press down on the pump until you achieve the desired look and coverage over the thinning area.

Step 2: For a greater hold, use our Fixing Spray to secure the hair fibres to your hair. Position the bottle approximately 3-5 inches above the target area and apply two short sprays, use the Edge Perfector to cover your forehead whilst spraying.

Styling Tips: Use the Hair Foundation Fibres as your last styling tool, after you’ve prepared your hair and applied other products.

-As a faster alternative to shampooing, we recommend you use cleansing wipes to remove any excess hair fibres. This ensures that your hair will look its best, without the fuss of washing your hair.

-Use Jamaican Black Castor Oil at night and the Hair Foundation Kit during the day to quicken the process of returning your hair to its previous glory.

-Practice spraying the Hair Fibres with the Applicator Pump on tissue paper before spraying on your hair, to get a better feel of how much pressure you should use on the Pump.

It usually takes several months for traction alopecia to reverse, during this time avoid hairstyles that can add further tension or strain to your hair.

Your Hair Foundation Fibres is made of natural products? What are they and do they benefit hair growth? Our Hair Foundation Fibres are made from the following natural ingredients: Gossypium Herbaceum, Keratin, Antistatic Agent, Ammonium Bicarbonate. We use an antistatic agent to help bond our hair fibres to each hair follicles and mineral-based colourants to add colour to our fibres. Keratin is a protein that already exists naturally in human hair and Gossypium Herbaceum is a plant-based fibre cotton. We do not use any nasty chemicals or artificial fillers.

The Hair Foundation Fibres can help support hair growth indirectly. It gives you the confidence to leave your hair out naturally without worrying about any thinning areas showing. Therefore you can prevent further damage happening to your hair and allow it grow naturally, without having to do hairstyles that would cause further traction and tension to your hair.

From your social media, it feels like you want to empower black women through hair. How femininity and hair link together for black women according to you? Hair is incredibly spiritual, it really encompasses and expresses who we are. It's more than just a style, it's part of our identity and can be used as a medium for cultural pride.

For centuries, African hairstyles have been used to indicate a women’s ethnic identity, wealth and rank within her community. Our hair has the power to dictate how others treat us, and in turn, how we feel about ourselves, this has a huge social and psychological impact on our self-esteem and confidence.

That's why we’ve made it our goal is to disprove the myth that black hair is unattractive and unmanageable. We want black women to recognise the value of their natural hair, and to love it as an extension of themselves.

What advice would you give to women to protect their edges?  Avoid hairstyles that are done too tight and pull on your hairline. Massage Castor oil or coconut oil on your hairline to keep the circulation and blood flowing in that area, this can encourage hair growth.

What are your favourite products to use on edges? Cantu Shea Butter Edge Stay Gel and Black Jamaican Castor oil.

If I could be stuck in a salon with anyone living or dead, I would choose... Because... Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, she is an inspiration and empowers women to think outside the box and not to be limited by the status quo.

Beauty... is the way you hold yourself. It's how you treat people, the way you love, it's self-acceptance. Beauty is perception...
